Coming from a life long Masters fan, who grew up on the original toy line and cartoon, this hardcover collection is a dream come true! I can't tell you have great it feels, to have ALL of the original mini comics from He-Man, She-Ra, and New Adventures, in one high quality book, bigger, and better then ever before. You even get some 200X and MOTUC thrown in.They aren't "mini" comics anymore, but are now more or less the regular size of your standard comic book. The art and text don't suffer from being blown up however, matter of fact, they look better then ever. The page quality is top notch here, as well as the binding. The book also includes it's on bookmark, attached to the book.If your a He-Man fan, this is a MUST have!

Upon opening the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe mini-comic book collection, I was immediately impressed! This is like the best, most amazing book ever!As a book collector, I own many books, including some very lovely roleplaying game and comic books, so there are a few that I've seen that are comparable to this in terms of sheer awesome, but this one might just about take the cake, eat a piece, and push the rest of it on Skeletor's face while giving a sarcastic one-liner, followed by Skeletor yelling "Noooo!", which is then followed by comedic laughter by all the hero characters as the scene ends.It's just so incredibly, and even unexpectedly, beautiful! I love the illustrations and the vibrant colors and the smell of the ink and paper. I'm totally psyched!My favorite books of all time include titles that are rich with illustration and beautiful and creative conceptual imagery. This heavy tome is now instantly at the top of my list. It is 2 1/4 inches thick and has a bright red silk bookmark ribbon. The storyline text is sometimes a little inconclusive, raw, or simplistic, but that really just makes it read more like an old fairy tale or a children's book, which is how the stories of The Masters of the Universe tend to play out. In the introduction, Tim Kilpin states (something like; to paraphrase), that in the beginning, they were trying to sell toys, but that the process of developing storylines and character origins that were fun for children was something that they took seriously, that took on a life of its own, and it shows. I feel like I'm reading an ancient tome or some long lost forgotten fairy tale of biblical proportions. I'm sure that a little bit of this has to do with childhood nostalgia. But He-Man has at least a few things in common with many heroes and champions of the forces of good, from modern stories, 20th-century pulp fiction, as well as ancient myths. It's one of the few storylines that successfully combines genres of magic - sword and sorcery - with technology and science fiction themes, other dimensions, and extraplanetary travel. I can't think of many other brands or stories that do this in a way that's similar.... Warhammer 40K, Final Fantasy, or maybe Riddick or the Princess of Mars Chronicles? He-Man is pretty unique.These stories are fun, interesting, and beautifully portrayed. Contained within seems to be all the He-Man and She-Ra comics ever written, save for a few obscure issues that were printed in Brazil which were seemingly so rare that they could not be tracked down and rediscovered. This collection is epic and gorgeous. You can tell that love and attention was put into both the initial creation of these comics, back in the 1980s, as well as into this vibrant 2015 restored collection.I was seriously not expecting something of this level of quality and content for the price, which is why I decided to write this review. Considering the production value and obvious effort put into it, I might've expected this book to be 3 times what it actually cost on Amazon.Alfredo Alcala is automatically one of my new favorite artists; his use of color is tremendously striking and simultaneously both imaginary or ethereal as well as realistic. I'd compare his work maybe to Katsuya Terada's during the late 80s.Even if you're not a huge fan of The Masters of the Universe, but just a fan of comic books or of the (2nd) golden age of illustration, this book is something you really should consider owning.

I've wanted this collection for quite some time!Back in the 1980s, when you got either a Masters of the Universe action figure or vehicle/playset, you got a free mini-comic. Generally what happened was on you way home from the store, you would read the minicomic in order to learn more about the item you have just bought. (Yes, I realize now that these books were basically 8-12 page ads. But they were so much fun to read!) Once you got home, you'd take your new toy and act out the adventures in the book. Or you'd nag your parents to buy the missing characters from the book.Over the years, finding those minicomics would become a mission for many fans such as myself. I don't have room to display dozens of action figures and playsets. But I have a couple of inches of space in one of my long boxes to house a complete run of minicomics.Turns out that the minicomics are even harder to find than the figures. That's because the minicomics would get lost or thrown away or damaged. In the over 10 years plus I've been collecting as an adult, I've only found one He-Man mini comic. It was only a couple of bucks but not in the best of shape with some apparent water damage.Thankfully, someone at Dark Horse decided to hunt down those lost treasures. And they went above and beyond including not just the complete run of MOTU, but the inserts from She-Ra, Princess of Power, the 1989 space reboot of He-Man, the original storybook set of 4, and some never before published minis as well!This collection is massively small. It has well over 1100 pages. Yet, it's just slightly bigger than the size of the mini-comics. So the transferring of original works to copies prevents the artwork from looking stretched-out!This massive volume includes early work from some of the industries legends such as Bruce Timm, Lee Nordling, Stan Sakai, Mark Texeira, and Robert Kirkman!It's really hard to complain about this book. Yes, some of the stories are quite silly, if not ludicrous. (They were written for kids aged 5-10!) The volume, it's got just about everything a MOTU minicomics collector would want- except for the final 8 minicomics produced for the He-Man classics line. I'm not sure why those weren't included unless Dark Horse was afraid that the book and it's costs were getting too out of hand.This book, from 2015, originally retails for $29.99. If you are patient, like I was, you can find it for a very good deal on Amazon. If you are wanting to revisit the wonder of being a He-Man fan back in the 80s, this is the perfect MOTU collection for you! And it will save you money and time for something else instead of trying to complete this set individually.Now if only DC Comics would release a collection of the Super Powers minicomics, my mirco-sized comic book searches would be complete!

I was amazed when this arrived in the mail. I had no idea how large and how heavy this book would be! At over 1,000 pages, this is not going to be a book you're going to go through over a weekend.As a kid, I remember reading the mini-comics that came packaged with the Masters of the Universe action figures back in the 80's. They were read once, forgotten about, and promptly thrown away by either mom or dad, so at best I was left with only vague memories of the stories. Re-reading them again in this collected edition has been a treat! The stories are on par with any comic written back then, and the artwork is very good. Please disregard the preview Amazon has for this book - only the first few pages are like that and afterwards, the stories are presented in a more traditional comic format.For the price, I can not recommend this book enough. If you're a He-Man fan, this is a no-brainer to purchase.
